Sugar

Dissolve the crystals evenly before distributing a dressing.

Illustrative imagery · not a measure of quantity

Why are crystals left at the bottom?

Sugar dissolves more readily in warmer water. Stir the liquid and check the bottom of the bowl. If the recipe permits gentle warming, use that step; boiling is not a requirement for dissolving the sugar.

Will honey or syrup give the same result?

They bring their own flavour and water, so an equal mass is not a direct equivalent to granulated sugar. Keep the recipe’s specified ingredient and amount when you want a repeatable dressing.
